ROOM TO BREATHE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES REMOTE INTERNSHIP & SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAM FOR AGES 14+
New program gives students, recent graduates and emerging professionals opportunities to build practical skills, explore career interests and contribute to meaningful nonprofit work from anywhere.
LARKSVILLE, Pa. — August 19, 2026 — Room to Breathe Foundation has announced the launch of its new Internship & Service-Learning Program, a fully remote opportunity designed to give students and emerging professionals meaningful, hands-on experience while contributing to real Foundation projects.
Open to students ages 14 and older, recent graduates, emerging professionals and individuals seeking practical experience, the program provides participants with opportunities to develop skills, explore potential career paths, build portfolio-worthy work when appropriate, and experience the responsibilities and collaboration involved in a real nonprofit environment.
The program is open to applicants from all backgrounds. As part of the Foundation’s longstanding connection to the VEPTR community, Room to Breathe also strongly encourages VEPTR teens and young adults interested in gaining real-world experience to apply. A VEPTR diagnosis or connection is not required to participate.
Real Experience, Not Just Observation
The Internship & Service-Learning Program was built around a simple principle: interns should have opportunities to do meaningful work, not simply observe it.
Depending on their interests, abilities and assigned projects, participants may contribute in areas including Marketing & Social Media, Graphic Design & Creative Arts, Writing & Communications, Technology & Web, Photography, Video & Media, Community Outreach & Programs, Fundraising & Events, and R2B Studios-related Foundation work.
Participants can identify the areas that interest them most and what they hope to learn. Previous professional experience is not required for many program pathways.
“We don’t expect applicants to already know everything. That’s the purpose of an internship. We’re looking for people who are curious, dependable, willing to learn and ready to contribute. We can help them build from there.”
100% Remote — Work on Your Time
Room to Breathe Foundation operates as a fully remote nonprofit, and the Internship & Service-Learning Program is remote as well.
The program is designed to provide flexibility around school, work, appointments, treatment, recovery and family responsibilities while still teaching the expectations that come with real-world work.
Participants are expected to communicate with their Foundation supervisor, complete agreed-upon projects, meet established deadlines and participate in necessary check-ins.
“Opportunity shouldn’t disappear because someone’s life doesn’t fit neatly into a traditional schedule. We wanted to create a program where people can gain meaningful experience while still managing school, appointments, work, family and everything else life may bring.”
Service-Learning and Community Service Opportunities
Students seeking community-service, service-learning, school-project or career-exploration experience may also apply.
When appropriate, Room to Breathe Foundation can provide documentation of verified participation and completed hours. Students should confirm their individual school or organization’s requirements before beginning, as acceptance of hours or academic credit is determined by the participating institution.
Applicants ages 14–17 require parent or legal guardian approval before beginning the program and receive age-appropriate assignments, supervision and defined responsibilities.
Learn. Create. Contribute. Grow.
The program focuses on giving participants opportunities to:
Gain real experience by contributing to meaningful projects.
Explore their future through exposure to different creative and professional paths.
Build practical skills in communication, creativity, technology, teamwork, organization and remote collaboration.
Develop portfolio-worthy work when appropriate and permitted.
Make an impact by using their developing talents and skills in work with a real purpose.
“If someone completes this program with stronger skills, real work they can talk about, a better understanding of what they’re capable of and greater confidence taking their next step, then we’ve accomplished something meaningful.”
